I went shopping in Muji and found these stickie notes. For the clock, I just think they are so useful for concluding how you will spent your waking hours of a day. The list one is just convenient for listing one word items like bananas or table.
Another item I bought was an A5 paper holder file made of denim tag for my todo lists. I have more than one list because I separate my 'todos' by where, or with what they should be carried out (contexts). Good examples can be 'At home' 'With laptop' 'With college work' 'Errands' 'Calls'. I learned this trick, along with many many others from a book called 'Getting Things Done: the art of stress-free productivity' by David Allen. It does exactly what it says on the tin and has changed my life. I don't feel like being dyslexic is a hindrance anymore. I truly feel like its a skill or 'a gift' now, if that put things into perspective. Some methods work for people who are not dyslexic and not so well for people who are. I think the methods in the book works for both. It is simple and you don't have to learn to do anything new.
I also bought a Denim Tag manila envelope (not shown here) for presenting my pattern papers with hand-ins. It isn't necessary but I love it and cannot think as of yet what to do with it.

White Noise In The Mind
I guess when people go to clubs and have had their ears bashed in by damaging volumes, then subsequently hear a white noise that they cannot get rid of, is a bit like how my mind has become. These people are unable to go to sleep unless they have some other sound, like the sound of a fan, to drown out the white noise from the damaged vibration sensitive hairs that line the inside of ears. These hairs are tiny and when healthy is what is used deep in the ears to 'read' sound waves, which are vibrations. Where it is like my mind in how it is functioning at the moment is like how I had turned up the volume in my mind too much and like the ears I cannot hear quietness, or pick up on small sounds which you have to be quiet sensitive to hear. The little hairs lining my brain are in recovery. And if this were happening to my ears, to heal them I would let them sit in quietness, training the tiny hairs to take all of it in, listening to the soundlessness and admiring its quality. But this is my brain and though it is different, it may still be the same scenario. I could sit my brain in complete quietness, a skill that takes effort to achieve. Mind like water, just sitting like a puddle on the floor and just admiring the quality of the moment. Training the tiny little hairs to take all of it in.
I think that is why I like to dance. And when I cannot dance, sing. Because doing so drowned out the white noise, just like the sound of a fan.

10 things I'm excited about right now
-Left home Away from family; freedom and independence to be fully accountable and responsible for myself and appreciating life and finding out what it is going to bring.
-Spending the rest if my life with Alex and loving him, sharing and getting to know him more and more each day that passes by, my fellow who I cherish my life with.
-Going to New York to experience the culture and being in a stimulating environment in which for me to thrive with my creativity, to challenge myself by taking the reigns in broadening my horizons.
-Going to Japan to find a home, live and thrive in my own natural way - peaceful way of life, certainty, structure, to be happy and satisfied.
-Getting shelf to have a more functional bathroom, to feel like I have an organised personal life and give me more mindful pleasure and a peace of mind.
-Interacting with people and working in a team and socialising making new friends in work. To feel connected with other wonderful beings that work with me, to appreciate and to share and cherish life with and to expand myself further.
-Doing something I love to bring the moneys in to get the best out of life and feeling like it has meaning. So that I feel like I am contributing and am good at what I do. So I can enjoy life and not feel guilty about having a reason to live because I am a live, loving being.
-Throw myself into making my way in life. Live in the present, not ever have a past to bite at me, it's behind me and it is there to help me learn and do things in a better way (To enlighten me and my approach to life), there to be leant from. Contribute to other people. Getting the wheels of life turning.
-Excited about being excited! Because Life is worth living. Because it can be spent in a positive way. Because we all have a choice which is to be infinite. Because we have a choice and that is the way things are. Because we all die in the end anyway.

Essay Summary
Summary word count: 930
The UK Fashion Industry is growing, with an economic value worth £20.9bn in its annual contribution to the UK’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product - collated by analysing the industry’s profits and wages (known as gross value added (GVA))). Selling an assortment of goods and products – Including womenswear and menswear through to handbags and shoes – plus the contribution of fashion education, fashion marketing and fashion media, the industry employs an estimated 816,000 people in the UK (The Guardian, 2010). The different sectors within the fashion industry that are available to me are fashion design, retail, manufacturing, creative and marketing/promotion. The sector I am hoping to succeed in is promotion because it is a very broad sector and professional roles includes photographer, journalist, stylist, graphic designer, plus many more other roles. It is hard work and a person must be very self motivated to succeed.
Throughout the first decade of the new millen ium, the manufacturing sector of the industry had mostly been outsourced to countries like India, China, Indonesia Sri Lanka and Turkey. However due to the current global issues like climate change and positive brand images generated for businesses who reduce their carbon footprint, coupled with the decline in jobs market with the current recession, there is a growing trend for companies to offer high-skilled apprenticeships in manufacturing in the UK. One recent example is ASOS; UK’s most successful online retailer, who will be funding the UK’s first National apprenticeship in Fashion and Textiles (FashionUnited.co.uk, 2011)
According to The Value Of The UK Fashion Industry Report 2009’s SWOT analysis, one of the noted weaknesses of the industry which has opportunity to improve was Barriers to sustained success for new talent, which expressed how there was a lack of entrepreneurial skills, like building a sustainable business model, among graduates of fashion in the UK, deterring financial institutions from lending money to UK graduates because of the seasonality of their products, and high upfront costs of collections (p77, report, The Fashion Council). This has prompted me to have awareness in the opportunity of room for improvement where my knowledge in business skills, theories and know-how is concerned to deepen my well of transferable skills, which I can use to my benefit in the future.
Throughout the course I have learnt how to refine my ideas in to realistic products, which my targeted consumer may want to obtain. This means that I have refined my creative abilities through my understanding of the market, in order to create a more desirable product whilst still trying to maintain my personal philosophy that products must seek to inspire as well as existing for their utility; especially within menswear where clothes are more subdued in design compared with women’s wear. Saying that, on the first day of the course we were told to be aware that these are exciting times in the menswear industry as there is a sense of mystery and fun within up-and-coming menswear fashion, internationally.
Because I found out that less than 1% of the fashion industry consists of designers I decided to broaden my scope of opportunities. I felt that in the elective, for the promotion Project where we had to create a magazine supplement for The Gentlewoman magazine, I started to feel that design might not be my area of interest within the fashion industry. I really enjoyed the project where I was the creative director and I had to think about what, where and how the overall message of our supplement would be instigated.
Working in a group for this project was an eye opener. Even though I had worked in a group before for last year’s E&E project and I had learned a lot about my personality, throwing myself into the Gentlewoman project allowed me to analyse after the project more accurately what my natural Belbin team role currently was. Taking the test once before the project and once after I found that there were significant differences in how I thought I interacted in a team and how I actually did. Where before the project I thought I was a Completer-Finisher (action orientated, scoring 25 points) and Monitor-Evaluator (thought orientated, scoring 15 points), it came to my surprise that upon more accurate and vivid reflection, the result had changed and I was actually more well rounded than I thought. The results were:
1. TW – scoring 13
2. CF – scoring 11
3. SH, PL, ME – jointly scoring 10
4. CO – scoring 6
5. RI, IMP – jointly scoring 5
This result was more reflective of my experience and more accurate also I think, because I enjoyed the overall experience of the project meaning that this is where I am most comfortable. In taking the role of a Team-Worker with other attributes most comfortable, it was no wonder I was not enjoying the Menswear pathway where I did not enjoy working on my own in comparison. I still like to get things done and always careful to delay the feeling of a sense of accomplishment for fear of not being thorough with my work (CF). However I found my strengths lie in enabling and encouraging teams to gel and achieve, especially where my interpersonal skills were concerned and this I think was how our project was successful in the end, because we worked together and combine our pools of energy. My weakness lies in being an organizer (CO) and self-presentation (RI). This is in part to do with my late diagnosis of a learning difficulty I have (diagnosed age 15) and having never picked up basic organisational abilities, which I work to improve everyday.

Yes! and...
Saying Yess and... is a technique fro improvisation

Ipp Submission
I just handed in my IPP assignment.
The presentation the IPP team provided us with was a lot more helpful than the brief ever was. I found that I repeatedly referred to it on a more regular basis whilst having the file open on my computer in the background. When I was checking off each point, I felt like I had truly finished and felt very good inside. However I didn't truly truly feel like I had finished until the deadline had come: 17:00. Even though, I had used up all three attempts to submit and could not have possible submitted anything furthermore. I must improve on this attitude I think, because (hopefully) there will be plenty of times when I complete assignments early, and I need to be able to move on when a project is completed. This tactic would prove beneficial. I also vow, from this experience that I will make an effort now to be less afraid to talk about stuff online. I will worry less about my worries and be more accountable for my thoughts, being more transparent.
Affirmation:
I release all that is unlike love. There is time and space for everything I want to do.

Belbin and E&E
My role was the assistant manager. In the Belbin test I had the strongest likeness with the Team Worker Pro file.
As we had to come up with an initial idea for business, we all sat down and generated ideas as a group, when we were finally happy with our idea, we came up with a list of tasks in order to realise the product: plan team meetings, and set ourselves goals and deadlines, we had to set weekly meetings to manage. Our time effectively. From this, each of out team chose which tasks we wanted to do and this then determined which job roles we were titled ourselves under which consisted of Management Research and Development, Finance, Marketing, Product Design, Product Development and Branding. Because I was a pushy character from the beginning, Myself and the whole team agreed that My Natural role would be Managing Director. As I was Managing the group, I thought each team member would feel more responsibility towards each of their own tasks if they chose it themselves for them to feel more accountable for each of their own task, each of which were vital to the completion of the project. As I thought communicating was a Key part of this project, I set up a written blog Where each member of the team would be able to post concerns, queries questions, findings to keep in touch with each other. This I also thought would be motivating for members to acknowledge each other’s progess. As I was the Managing Director (Assisstant to the Project Leader) of the project, this project help me come out of my shell as I had to interact with the team on a regular basis and surprisingly at the time it came very naturally to me. When I talked with my peers after the project, the only criticisms are that I could have listened to my team more and that would have aided lubrication of progress more within the project in communication and stress levels. I will take this on board for any future projects that I do.

i found interesting that less than one percent of jobs in the industry involves designing because even though i knew this to an extent i didn’t realise the percentage was so significantly low. It makes me wonder what other job roles doesn’t involve designing and makes me feel positive about the scope of opportunities that are available. This makes me perceive my course differently as it makes me define what I do more consciously and notice that although some things I do on my course doesn’t come naturally to me, I see this as a good reason to seek out skills to develop that would spur me on to become more versatile, enabling me to utilise skills for fashion in a wider sense and even related fields. This broadens my horizons of the future because the point is to remain open and flexible.

Waiting is never a good idea
I cannot from now on wait until I have done all unnecessary things before moving on to what matters. When I have done with things that don't matter, it actually means I have used up a lot of concentration and mental energy. Therefore it is not a good idea to wait.
Avoiding the short term altogether
Analysing goals
In a lot of goals that are really worth their value in achieving, short term pain is gone through in order to experience the long term pleasure of rewards/benefits. Case in point: assignments as an example. It occurs often also, that goals that are not worth much value from achieving often provide short term pleasure, but not much long term benefits. Case in point: watching a repeat of your favorite episode of human planet [or insert TV program here]. There are anomalies but generally this is the case, and there is a balance to enjoying each day that life brings you.
The source of my worries, troubles and my life in general, comes from my capacity to go through short term pain. This is what I once prized as my ability to see beyond the present 'short term pain' into the future to see 'long term pleasure', and to hence achieve goals.
However, it has prevailed that I have been restricting myself from short term pleasures as a way to punish myself for not going through short term pain. Avoiding the short term altogether. This is in the hope of negatively enforcing myself for avoiding short term pain in the hope of seeing the long term pleasure, motivating me to pursue it. This does not work. For doing this has created what one could call a vicious circle of misery from not experiencing any pleasure whatsoever, or being in the present and enjoying the moment.
Restricting short term pleasure does not help in the seeking out of long term pleasures, but rather the opposite. Being miserable helps to only see other misery in the past, present or future, pushing any vision of hope or happiness out of the immediate consciousness. When pleasure (as well as pain) is not experienced in the short term, one could argue that this restricts a person from envisioning a long term altogether: the pains or pleasures of different choices to be made.
Hence, this technique of restricting short term pleasure as a means of self punishment does not help one to become motivated into pursuing their dreams. What could help is rather analysing one's choices: being clear of what the short term pleasure of a decision is, and what is the short term pain that is being avoided. Then, what is the long term pain that will come from avoiding the short term pain? And what would be the long term pleasure from going through with the short term pain, having sacrificed the short term pleasure?

Life Drawing
I feel like I'm walking on air. Life drawing is one of those things I have enjoyed doing a lot in the past because I always feel like I'm making progress. To be able to do it and learn new perspectives and idea so far from home really makes me feel good about myself. It has been such a long time since I have done any proper drawing and so I'm rather rusty. but what better than to graft from the beginning.
The first rough poses were 1 minute drawings. Later a range of 5, 10, 20 and 30 minute drawings. In the final drawing, I was guided to start from the centre of the model, then map outwards using directional lines and points to guide me. I was also to use my weaker hand as doing so will force me to look harder at my subject rather than relying on habit to create lines. The result is the beginning of exploration of the form, which adds weight and solidity to the model on paper as well as just being more accurate
I feel revelation for not restricting myself by doubt or ego and just really exploring my way into the action and waiting to see what happens. It was very different for me and I feel like I have learned something new. I like the result.

Dynamic Braking
http://www.ge.com/thegeshow/rails/#ch2
Today my friend Bex Elley directed me to a video I will used to influence me in my project. Just like her, I find it really inspiring and interesting, probably because it touches on subjects that I do not usually deal with such as Physics, Math, chemical engineering and sustainability. She said something I found just amazing today which was that, as human beings, she thought that we should always aim to use our brains at full capacity and intend never to stop doing that to the full potential of our abilities. Fuel for thought? To me she has pointed out something really intrinsic to what I do. To what anyone does and how we can all live better lives. To me, engaging the brain includes using both sides of the brain together as much as possible. And this was why I find her statement so remarkable and true. It is now also my aim.

Innovation - SHOCK OF THE NEW: In the Salon des Refuses
Statement of Intent
I intend to make a coat and trousers with a top at the very least. I'm also going to consider the presentation at each step I'm going to make towards that. This outfit is going to be made inspired by an experience I had as a younger child. When I fell from a bench blindly with all four limbs restricted, on to solid concrete with my forehead landing first.
Influences include my memory. This will be supported by my investigation and my abilities to recall and make sense clearly and exactly of what happened in this experience by watching videos of objects breaking down, or things happening in slow motion. This is because I really want to breakdown my memory as if replaying it in my head in slow motion, really re-absorbing that experience and translating the abstract feelings into a visual representation directly on different parts of the (my) body, in cloth and clothing construction. I am also going to experiment on the stand in order to illustrate my ideas prior to making a decision(s) on my final garments. This will be supported by drawing and colour application in 2D, collage and painting.
Week 1 - Research / Experimentation
Experimenting on the stand. Drawing from slow motion videos and thoughts, recording these with writing etc (2D). Production of attempts to record in slow motion.
Week 2 - Design development / Exploration / Execution / Product
Further Research. Creating a single inspired piece of artwork. translating abstract images on to designs. Then refining designs and details. Fabric research and making decisions on final fabric, taking into account ethics and sustainability. (Before in researching and whilst in designing.) Create 2 samples that are significant to the final prototype.
Week 3 - Consolidation / Realisation
Create toile for each of the separates. Sewn together and completed. Trouser, Jacket, Shirt (top, bottom, overgarment). Confirm and realise finalisations.
Week 4 - Presentation / Evaluation
Realise Final Prototype. Evaluate the result. Create Presentation illustrating the process - see Evidence for Assessment on the brief.
To assess the success of the project throughout I will use various dialogue between tutors, peers and myself. I am going to record commentary, processes, findings, influences and explorations in my personal visual diary, along with
the briefing notes,
the weekly tutorial I will have with Colin Thompson (design tutor) (x1),
weekly sessions with Anthony Abebrese (pattern cutting tutor),
Florence (for manufacturing guidance) (x4),
Formative Assessment (Colin) (x1),
Self-evaluation throughout,
Final self-evaluation,
and peer to peer evaluation,
as a tool to comment on developmental issues and the completed project.

Today I have spent a lot of time looking at slow motion videos from this website. I type in 'smashing stuff slow motion' and funnily enough that video by James Adair and that other bloke was the first to come up on google video. Having not been able to obtain a hi speed camera, I will still attempt to record things being dropped breaking on Monday with a Canon 550. However, on further thought, it wasn't like I split my head open. I realised that in the videos, things that didn't brake were more relevant. The strange sensation was very distinctive and I would like to express it in my outfit. Or developments. I can start off showing it visually maybe. Will I do it?

Twinge. Negative Emotions Are Action Signals
Its really quiet in college today. I managed to borrow a lapuser. I started today off by getting getting really grateful for people around me. I left my PDA in college somewhere and somebody handed it in. I love it.
So last night was fairly steady. I made that poster for Katie, hope she likes it. And before that I wrote a letter. And before that I revisited the tea intro paragraph and tried to improve it. After discussion with Alex, he concluded that I must write it out again now, as myself and not the editor of the magazine. I understand what he means because the grammatical wierdness came from trying to use the existing article as a formula. Yes the piece was well studied, now I need to write it out again as myself to make it flow more:
Anyone bustling flustering to and fro may always be comforted in the thought that settling back into ourselves again is just a cup of tea away. Pruned and harvested carefully for thousands of years for beautifully young antioxidant rich leaves, this remarkably subtle hot drink is made available to unbend the minds of vast souls, to enjoy for its health benefits as for their aromas, quenching thirst. Here, they are photographed in their natural habitat: cups.I am enjoying the process of writing. Its a time for quite sitting contemplation. There are other things I need to do. And now the time has come where, I have realised that somethings just need doing. If it falls through, do some more, until I get it right. Not, practice. Do it. Much nicer! I am working at a slow and steady pace. I would like to stick to it.

Today we had the briefing for the promotion brief, our chosen elective pathway. I always thought promotion was the fun lazy side to fashion. How wrong I was. Yes it is fun, but there is so much so interesting and meaning full to learn, and so many skills and subtleties to pickup. After the briefing today, I felt very excited to be working in a team again. Two members of our team were not here because they were having a crit for their last project. Iain couldn’t pronounce their names, which I found rather amusing. But anyway, I was excited because it is just the briefing and already I feel like I had learned something so completely new and invaluable. Our new tutor Lindsay was discussing with Iain how different words spark off different things, images, meaning to different people. And this is where understanding what you always mean is so important to connecting and communicating to other people and ‘getting it’. We were told: to ‘feel’. This was repeated several times I think, because there really is just no other way to explain it, and too right it is as well. I don’t know, and it sounds silly, but I feel like its really simple, but it is also something I have forgotten to do, FOR A VERY LONG TIME. Amongst all the design and having to fulfill briefs for designing, it never occurred to me to use this innate skill we all have inside of us. I already feel like I’m learning something that will significantly contribute to my menswear work, and my life. This is going to be good.

Gentlewoman Meeting 1
Today, The day started by meeting the team together and and defining roles within the team for Promotion. Our magazine is looking good. I really like my team and feel we can really work together well. It was the first time that we were together where the whole team had been present. The agenda I felt was to try and define team roles and responsibilities.
During previous discussions, we felt that the magazine appeals to many ages of women as contents was very open in terms of age. the most obvious link between the different people of interest were that they were all successful women who have carved careers out for themselves and who do not answer to anybody as a result. Because of this, I think the magazine's audience include not only young professionals but older professionals alike. And because of this, may also appeal to quintessentially ambitious, aspiring young women everywhere. Saying that, I fell that the magazine is inspired by the world although, is very british in nature.
Ann pointed out today that our magazine supplement could be useful for our audience by introducing different ways for these strong hardworking women to relax. Whether discussing which products to buy, or where to go for a spar treatment, the feel is understated luxury. Discretion, beauty, purity and quiet strength is key. Our collective intelligence together suggested the root to beauty and grooming, comes by strong emphasis upon a foundation of excellent health. This approach to the brief we felt, would appeal more our audience within the topic of beauty and grooming.
We came up with possible definitive solutions for presentable content within our supplement.
Interest in possible women to further represent The Gentlewoman's philosophy.
Members of the team can source possible women.
Jack from the beginning had an ideal woman in the form of a friends mother.
Jun Hon has an aunt who, after being widowed, took over her widowers business and became a successful business woman running two very successful restaurants appealing to city dwellers in the heart of Manchester.
Kirin, who has a strong background in Health and Beauty, was naturally the strongest candidate for styling and is very appealed to creating a beyond successful fashion/beauty shoot.
Other Ideas Included taking inspiration from the contextual studies lecture where Beau Brummell invited gentlemen to observe and learn how he groomed and prepared himself in the morning. We can put a contemporary spin on this example and ask to observe and learn how they groom themselves and possibly record this process in the form of a beauty/documentary shoot consisting of 2 photos per person: 1 to capture out interesting womans personality and another of her sitting by her dresser or wardrobe or sink, plus illustrations of products.
Make up tips for different age groups
It was concluded from the feel of the magazine, where art direction was concern for it to be elegant and bold at the same time.
Another notable question in the discussion was asking what do these interesting and powerful women like to do on a sunday afternoon?
products: creme de la mer; sisley; origins; phytomist

Design Overtime
Eric found this for me. It was an event I went to.
I got to ask Fred Butler a Question and my heart was pounding so much.
Q. Something about DO you find restrictions useful?
A. Something about time constraints.
